Brookdale Chestnut Lane Gresham

Brookdale Chestnut Lane Gresham is one of only three communities in the entire country that is for deaf and deaf/blind residents. Our building overlooks downtown Gresham and views of Mt. Hood from our dining room are spectacular. We are located just 20 minutes east of Portland and it is easily accessible by light rail. Residents and their families are just a quick train ride from Portland’s boutique shops, eclectic dining scene, Oregon Zoo, world famous rose gardens and the Portland Saturday Market.

Our community was specifically designed with wide open areas so that residents can sign to each other from across the room. Rooms include kitchenettes, private bathrooms, walk in closets and many windows. Residents also have the option for a video phone in their apartment or they may use the community videophone. All of our staff are fluent in sign language and some are deaf themselves.

We are a very active community and our smaller size allows us to tailor our programs to each individual’s needs and preferences; current resident and staff favorites include:

• Driving through the Columbia River Gorge
• Hosting events for deaf community
• Croquet
• Fun daily activities such as ‘Dress Up Your Pet Day’ and ‘Twiddle Your Thumbs Day’
  We are very pet friendly, over the years our non-human residents have included not only dogs and cats but rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish and parrots.
