We are not “facilities” but secure, safe, small warm HOMES that have been providing quality long term care and love for twenty-five years here in Apalachin, New York. We are not shiny, fancy facilities. We are clean, comfortable, welcoming homes where all feel at home.

The site provides a lot of information concerning Family Type Homes and why we are so unique and different in providing an alternative to large assisted living facilities. Our protocol for long term care is based on living in a smaller home where you have a family around you, who care for you. And you actually do have that love and care! We understand how difficult placing a loved one into a new, strange setting must be…and want to assure you that we do care about not only our new resident, but

Our clients receive care for many different issues and we are well able to care for them with love, compassion, and thoughtful attention. We accept many different levels of care plus…

Specialized dementia care for the elderly! We have been dealing with wandering issues for over twenty years so our homes are secure, with fenced yards and locked alarmed doors! We become an extended family, not just a care facility!

We also provide day care and respite care when possible.

We provide a variety of activities based on an individual’s interests and abilities. We go fishing with our guys who love to fish, or to baseball/football games with our ball lovers. We visit nurseries and shop for gardening supplies for our garden lovers…and so on. We do theme meals, craft projects, and movie nights! Social activities are encouraged. Lunches out, theater trips, song fests, musicians who visit our homes, all types of activities are planned!

We strive for loving, quality, long term care in our small, welcoming homes that provide wonderful care and supervision. We are known for providing a level of care not found in any average assisted living facility. We work closely with a local physician and her staff. Dr. Susan Choi can order specialized care for our residents, her patients. Working with the local agency, trained nurses can come into our homes to provide the short term extended care that a resident might require. Dr. Choi also does house calls depending on the circumstances! We have a podiatrist who comes regularly to check on our residents. A local beautician comes in for hair appointments. With a doctor’s order, a Physical Therapist comes to give aid to residents. All caregivers and home managers are trained through First Aid and CPR classes. The Homesteads also provide additional training to all caregivers so they are at the level of a CAN found in a nursing facility…and actually a little beyond. This allows for unusually close monitoring and loving care.

The really large difference is the caregiver to client ratio…

In the larger facilities, it is 1 to 15…

While at the Homesteads…it is 1 to 4….

This makes a tremendous difference in the level of care!

We are licensed and inspected by New York State and the local DSS. We have strict regulations we must meet, as is any home that is regulated by the state. Also, The Homesteads have an additional set of regulations that our homes must follow.

All our homes are handicap accessible with either an easy or ramp entrance.
